John Gruden Quote

“They better quit watching The NFL Network all day and they better quit playing their video game, and get off the cell phone and the Blackberries and all that stuff, and get outside here on the nice, green grass. Find a place to run and run. And then run again, and run again.”

Quote from Tex Winter

I read almost all of, “The Last Season” by former Bulls Coach Phil Jackson that chronicles the season that Shaq, Kobe, Gary Payton and Karl Malone were all LA Lakers on the way back from Vegas.

This quote by Tex Winter struck me as true:

“You are only a success at the moment that you do a successful act”

Phil Jackson explains that quote further with, “You can’t be a sucecss the next moment because you have already moved on to do something else, even if it’s accepting the award for the successful moment that just passed. That is why I’ve always told my players the glorification comes from the journey, not the outcome.”

Josh Fogg Quote

# Pittsburgh’s Josh Fogg, April 21 vs. the Cubs:

0 IP, 3 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 0 K, 1 WP, followed by this quote: “I know it sounds funny to say, when I gave up five runs and didn’t get any of the six batters I faced out — but I feel pretty good about the way I threw.”

Good Experience Quote

I get this newsletter: Good Experience – the part about Graphic Designers resonated with me.

Create a good customer experience.

Which is to say, many companies base their user experience on the wrong things: office politics, “me-too” reactions to competitors, the “rules” of information architecture tactics, inertia (“we’ve always done it this way”), the ego of the graphic designer (who just wants to work at a print magazine), serving advertiser interests at the expense of the user, and a dozen other excuses for why they just can’t afford to pay attention to the customer.

Emeka Okafor Quote

“I’ve heard people say that success can be your first step toward failure. You can get complacent and you forget what got you to where you are. So I have to remind myself, ‘Keep working. Keep working, Keep working.’”

Todd Helton Quote

“We can talk about it all we want. But there comes a time when you just have to get it done and quit talking about it. There’s been a lot of talk here and not enough doing. ”

Comments from BootsnAll Traveler

We were e-mailing about his upcoming trip – I said “Bring double the money and 1/2 the shit” – here is his reponse. LOL.

Re $$: I’m gonna be saving like mad, but I’m fortunate that the job (when I get it) pays ok and I have very few expenses; I can save at least half of my income without feeling too deprived. I’m the stereotypical 40 year old guy living in his parent’s basement. Of course when I want to visit all my nice shit I drop by ex-wife’s
house…
