Big Business Failure

I have a friend, for privacy reasons I can’t disclose, who just went through a several month period of the business blowing up. This person took a risk and tried to expand and build more value for his customers and colleagues.

– customers were upset
– employees were upset and mutiny minded
– lost a TONNE of money

I feel bad cuz it sucks, but I also admire this person because they had the balls/ovaries to try.

It moved me, hearing this story cuz it hurts so much, on so many levels. I found this link from JamesA that talks about how to recovers from stuff like this.

News is a Waste of Time

For the 2nd time in the past week, I’ve come across a blog post about Avoiding “the News” as it’s ultimately a waste of time.

Matt Cutts is doing it and Chris Mayer talks about it as a waste from an investment perspective.

Both of the above links are worthy of your time to read and “Not News”. Injoy!

I’m editted my RSS feeds today to get rid of the news, and focus on deep thinking reading.

Sebastian Maniscalco Comedy

Funny 6 minute skit of an old college friend. He used todo some of this type of stuff the morning after a big piss-up. Glad to see him still bringing laughs to the world.

Small Farmers are almost gone

My pops was raised on a small farm back in PA in the late 40s and 50s. Many folks like my pops used to live on small farms and be able to make a modest living. KC and I discussed last night, the plight of the small/non-corporate farmer. From what I can see, it is a very difficult business today. In fact, it almost ain’t a business.

She put me onto Agriculture of the Middle.

This term refers to a disappearing sector of mid-scale farms/ranches and related agrifood enterprises that are unable to successfully market bulk commodities or sell food directly to consumers.

I am sure there is so much more to this than I am aware of. Any thoughts?

Twitter Slowness: Same on Evhead

Just had that twitter slowness that I mentioned before when I was loading my blog. I quickly checked Evhead (the head guy at that company) and his was slow as well. So, I’m thinking he knows about it.

Dead Poet’s Society

As I work my around to this time zone, I watched Dead Poet’s Society today, not having seen it since 1989.

It’s almost like seeing it for the 1st time after all these years.

Superb movie and some gr8 messaging about living life fully and going for it.  I reckon so many times I see folks “living lives of quiet desperation”, including myself.  Even though it is Hollywood, I like the message and how it left me feeling inspired.

Oh Captain my Captain! šŸ™‚
