PDX Wi-Fi Tradition

I am in Terminal D, so I can’t hang at the normal spot in PDX b4 all my trips.  This time, at the Coffee Peeps near D6.  They opened at like 4:30 – I was 2nd in line and now there is a line of 20 waiting for fill-up.
Gr8 to see and hear the rain/thunder last nite.  Unusual for Willamette Valley, no?  Cheers.

Europe Bound for 7 weeks

We have been working our little arses off the past few weeks and non-stop the past 7 days.  About 12 hours from now I am on my way to Europe and to participate in the World Cup.  I couldn’t be more excited.

Bob, Chris, Peter and I did an intense session on Saturday and Sunday, planning more of the details for World Cup.  Stuff like, who goes to what game, how/what content to generate, how will it be organized.  It’s gonna be awesome.  The 1st 19 days of World Cup have no breaks for us…non-stop blogging, podcasting, vlogging, and picture taking.  I am excited for the challenge.

To all my PDX friends, have a gr8 summer.  I’ll miss participating in it.  See you mid-july.

You’re Pretty. I like you

Al in all dating a Balinese girl is WAY more straightforward in the beginning than a westerner. You can say “You’re pretty, I like you.” and that will be taken for exactly that. Try saying that to a westerner, they’ll think you are mentally ill.

Sunday Morning on Mother’s Day

About 8 days or so until I leave for Europe. I’ll be gone for about 7 weeks or so for the World Cup and stuff.  If you are my friend and want to come over for a visit, it should be a good time as we try to produce something that we have fun with, and that World Cup fans embrace.

Last night I went to Cascade Art Walk with HB.  It was the fundraiser/auction for CAP and the 1st auction I have gone to in the past 3 years that I did not buy something.  Not that I did not want to, I just exercised restraint. 🙂  It was super swanky and big compared to ones that I have been to.  For example, most auctions have this bit where they show a video, get you all emotional, and then ask for money.  Well these folks started asking at $25,000.  Wow.  They did work their way down to $100, but that takes some gall to ask…having said that, if you don’t ask, you probably won’t get…so, good for them.

Here is a sneak preview into out new Travel Guide/Logue platform. PortlandLogue is one of the 1st ones we have migrated.  I am excited about the software, but more importantly, what it will do for travellers regarding information, travel planning, and interaction with other travelers.

Happy Mother’s Day to all.

My 1st 3 attempts on World Cup Blog

I reckon it’s not that hard once you get into it. Of course, a talent like Bob is superior to what I do, but I can fill in the gaps for a few days and hopefully not turn the audience off.

Google Trends and World Cup Bets

  • Google Trends
  • Bet on the World Cup: We have had some interest in betting on the site. Check out all the different bets – more coming soon as well.
  • Bob is out of town for 3 or 4 days and his blogging on WCBlog will be limited.  Chris and I will attempt to cover for him.  It could get ugly.  After reading this guy for 4 months, I feel inadequate as a World Cup Blogger

Quality of Life vs Simplifying Life

I’ve been thinking a lot about what Mika posted about today. Life is stressful as anything at times for me as well and I think I know what he is talking about. Same wavelength mate.

Some things I am stressed about are:

  1. World Cup (getting it right)
  2. Woman
  3. Living situation (I live in my office)

All stress levels going up and down at various times much like Mika mentioned. All in all, the more work I put into ’em, the better I usually feel about ’em. The stress just hits me at certain moments – not all the time.

Simplifying Life (Is this part of the answer?)

I am not sure if I am romanticizing it, but when I took the greyhound bus into Eugene, Oregon to move there with nothing more than a backpack to my name…that was simple. No shit, no worries. Of course, I am sure there was…but more shit typically = more worries.

Today, still living in my office, I travel a tonne…I feel like I am in transition and am not sure if life is that simple right now. Sometimes I think of Nick in Bali, and wonder how simple things seem there…of course, with a wife and child, it might not be as simply as I remember it….I guess I always think of Nick as a guy that keeps things simple. He will be in Berlin, helping us produce World Cup Blog. Being around him helps remind me of the simple stuff in life. I love that stuff.

Angela mentioned this weekend that she thought it’d be nice to have a piece of land and live off of it. Another bloke I met recently said his day is “living off the grid” and he might like to join ’em. Just thinking, What exactly does it mean to simplify life?

  • Get rid of shit you don’t need
  • Get rid of excess debt
  • Have time where nothing is planned so that you can read, write, paint, run, talk – but it ain’t planned

LG Barbershop and Cedar Park Middle School Career Day

I was lucky enough to participate in Cedar Park Middle School Career day last friday.  About 5 classes of 8th graders came through and I talked a bit about my “career” and discussed travel, passion, blogging, and school with them.  It was fun and exciting to be around their energy.

Gotta get moblogging set-up on this blog for now – check it out over here. LG got his afro chopped on Friday…I’ll miss it.  That thing had a mind of its own.

New World Cup Homepage

World Cup homepage.

We tried a new layout…to bring out the team blogs more as well as more of Bob’s posts.  He posts 8 to 12 times per day and on the old layout, his new posts quickly got lost.

We have another new design/layout for the actual tourney that I think is gonna kick some booty.  In less than 30 days, I will be Berlin.  Yahooooo.
