Last Week in South Africa

Not sure who can see and not see this website.  I have been getting reports of folks that the url does not resolve, and it resolves – but the CSS file is not loading.  Oh well – no time to fix – and very little time to blog.

Looking at this thing – it’s a bit of a shame that I couldn’t get more thoughts down the past month or so….hell – it has been 8 days since I last posted.

Here is a round-up of some random stuff:

Big Fire on Table Mountain the past 3 days – Helicopters are still flying over our house going back and forth to the ocean, picking up water and carrying it to the houses above.  It doesn’t look serious – but I can’t be sure.

– Been pounding out some long days here.  It is quite enjoyable though since I am near the ocean and it is pleasant surroundings.  Ben is here for 8 to 10 hours a day and then working with folks back in the US and elsewhere frequently has me up late and early.  I enjoy it.  I reckon if I was back home, I’d be more socially active and not getting as much done.  So I am thankful for the time and undivided attention.

– BnA was linked up in an Article in the NYTimes last weekend on Afghanistan.  I don’t know where the link is but we always appreciate it.

– There is a lovely 50M pool 10 minutes down the road here.  Salt water pool and right on the beach.  I have gone lap swimming a few times recently at 7 am.  A great way to start the day.

– I am hoping to be back here for 1 month in February 2007 to celebrate a friend’s 50th birthday.  Next time, I think I would like to stay in the Seapoint area versus the current Camps Bay area.  Seapoint seems to have more people, more cafes, restaurants, and closer to city. (note to self:remember this before you book)

-We had a lovely braii (South Africa word for Barbeque – I sounds like a Yankee jag off if I call it a bbq here) the other day in 50 knot winds.  Looking back at it, it was not so smart todo so with the potential fire danger.  It was still a good time.

At dinner tonight, Ben was sharing with some friends, that when he comes into our temporary home in Cape Town, he is not just working with Sean and Court from PDX, but also with folks in Europe, India, Australia, Bali and beyond.  He called us a truly worldwide organization.

I don’t know if I think of us like that, but I suppose we are – not in the GE way, but in the mum and pops way if that is possible.

Anyway, the electricity in Cape Town was out for about 6 or so hours today so it gave me the chance to step away from my computer during the day hours…I promptly took a nap and read my book.  It was glorious.

Crap about Crap

My blog was down for a day or so – Typepad changed some DNS settings or something like that. I think I am just gonna move my blog to BnA’s Blogging Platform sometime soon.  Working on a new design so stay tuned.

There is a lot I should be bloggin about – but I just don’t have the energy by the time I have the time.  Good nite and hope everyone’s 2006 is going off well so far.

Bob is Funny

In the brief time that Bob has been project managing and World Cup Blogging – he has had my laughing out loud a bunch of times…most recently – about the Angola WC Team

I am getting addicted to the WC Site as well…reloading it 6 times per day to see what is going on – For the moment, Czech and England blogs are posting the most frequently.  Not sure I can wait 5 months for the action to start.  – Good nite from Cape town.

Happy Birthday to me, I’m 33

It’s sunday nite in Cape town, South Africa and I have been 33 for about 21 hours or so.  33 is one of those reflective numbers and has me thinking a bit more about life and my place in it.

thanks again mum and pops.

– I hope that if I am lucky enuff to have another 33 years, that I can participate and make a positive difference somehow.

– I was drinking 7+ liters/day on Kili – I pissed a lot.  I was always walking near Chuck and would frequently just turn a few feet off the trail and whip it out.  Check out Sean’s Waterworks.  (not sure if this is so reflective on my birthday – but what the hell)

– watching the Indy v Pitt game – hoping I can stay awake for Da Bears game.

Thanks to Ben, Court and Lara for going out and celebrating with me last nite – gr8 times finishing off that 3 liter magnum of Pinotage.

Sitting here with Ben and Court – thinking about new ways to post pictures to our sablog that are more efficient.

The only issue we have it linking through to another site (in this case flickr) – is that a bad thing?
