Christmas in Tanzania and 3rd World Jackass

Just wanted to say Merry Christmas to all from Sunny/on the equator Tanzania.  I’ll spare you the play by play details of what I have been doing and just leave you with a funny story or our Biking Safari.

We went on a Bikiing Safari the other day, and Donovan is a bit of an X-Gamer biker and skatboarder like the crew from JackAss.  When we got the bikes, lots of kids from the village gathered to watch.  As he boarded he whispered to me:

"Watch this, 3rd world JackAss."

And proceeded to slowly drive through the crowd of kids.  It was funny to see them scatter and laugh.  He of course did not hurt anyone, was just having a good time with everyone.

I thought it was hilarious watching him make funny faces and the kids laughing and scattering.

Peace and Happy Holidays to all – I’ll check e-mail one more time before the climb.  BTW – my texting messaging broked the other day and I just got a local SIM chip.  If you want to txt me in Tanzania –  (Country Code +255) 787-768-050 is my local number.  You can also call it if you want – free for me to receive calls.

Tanzania for 2 weeks

I am at my normal PDX wifi spot (remember – I used to have glasses) and still have another 2 hours before my flight to Seattle.  Sitting here reading Court’s Nairobi Adventures and txt messaging with Donovan and Carrie on Kili.  Carries says that a fridge of Kili beer is waiting for me, at their house on Mt. Kili.  Should be good.

In the meantime, I have about 48 hours of travel ahead of me.  I am pretty relaxed about it.  Having done trips like this several times the past few years…the best thing todo is chill.  Whatever happens, happens.  Very little I can do, and stressing does nothing.  So injoy the wifi, txt with friends and voila.  I’m be there in a few days.

Other Notes
I’ll be pretty far away from e-mail until January 5th.  Maybe check in the 24th, 26th – but that is about all.  I will have text messaging capabilities in Tanzania, and hopefully for the 7 days that we will be climbing Kilimanjaro…

Not sure about updating this very much as well over the next few weeks.

Friends and family in PDX and USA – see or talk to you in February.  Happy New Year and thanks for being friendly etc in 2005.  I hope we can still be friends and do challenging things in 2006 and beyond.  Rock on.

This was from Dec 18th.  It was gorgeous up there.  After this recent snow storm in PDX – I’m sure there are bucketloads more snow.  I am a bit sad to be leaving this behind…but more adventures await.

Our World Cup Blog is back underway and I am excited about it.  I also want to welcome the my newest colleague, Bob Kellett.  He’ll be the managing editor and project manager for WCB and I super stoked to  be able to work with him.  If you are a friend of mine in Portland, I can’t wait to introduce him to you.
