Another place to try that is about an hour from Belize in Mahuaha. It is still a quaint little fishing village with almost nothing but it does have one spot with wireless Internet, a few small “hotels”. A local man just sort of “adopted” us and made himself our personal concierge. He climbed coconut trees to pick the very coconut we wanted, chopped it open with a machete, stuck a straw in it, and served it to us. Our food was delivered by his splish-splashing into the water to the boat where we were lounging. A huge tray of ceviche only cost $12.00. Mahuaha sees only one cruise ship here and there. It really is your beach getaway!
