Last Week in South Africa

Not sure who can see and not see this website.  I have been getting reports of folks that the url does not resolve, and it resolves - but the CSS file is not loading.  Oh well - no time to fix - and very little time to blog.

Looking at this thing - it’s a bit of a shame that I couldn’t get more thoughts down the past month or so….hell - it has been 8 days since I last posted.

Here is a round-up of some random stuff:

- Big Fire on Table Mountain the past 3 days - Helicopters are still flying over our house going back and forth to the ocean, picking up water and carrying it to the houses above.  It doesn’t look serious - but I can’t be sure.

- Been pounding out some long days here.  It is quite enjoyable though since I am near the ocean and it is pleasant surroundings.  Ben is here for 8 to 10 hours a day and then working with folks back in the US and elsewhere frequently has me up late and early.  I enjoy it.  I reckon if I was back home, I’d be more socially active and not getting as much done.  So I am thankful for the time and undivided attention.

- BnA was linked up in an Article in the NYTimes last weekend on Afghanistan.  I don’t know where the link is but we always appreciate it.

- There is a lovely 50M pool 10 minutes down the road here.  Salt water pool and right on the beach.  I have gone lap swimming a few times recently at 7 am.  A great way to start the day.

- I am hoping to be back here for 1 month in February 2007 to celebrate a friend’s 50th birthday.  Next time, I think I would like to stay in the Seapoint area versus the current Camps Bay area.  Seapoint seems to have more people, more cafes, restaurants, and closer to city. (note to self:remember this before you book)

-We had a lovely braii (South Africa word for Barbeque - I sounds like a Yankee jag off if I call it a bbq here) the other day in 50 knot winds.  Looking back at it, it was not so smart todo so with the potential fire danger.  It was still a good time.

Homie,

Not many people were at risk evidentally - the fire was mostly contained to the mountain. Considering how big the fire was, only a few houses got toasted.

Talk soon bud.
