How to Prevent the Kathy Sierra Situation

Lots of folks are blogging about the Kathy Sierra death threat yesterday and today.

These posts will give you most of the background:

- Kathy Sierra original post
- Rageboy response
- Pirillo’s thoughts

From the reading I am done - looks like some of the death threats came from Spain IP addresses or from anonymous postings.

Identities online are easily masked. Would an identity system like OpenID help prevent stuff like this? Seems like lotsa folks get keyboard agro and post whatever when it is not tied to themselves/identity. Most folks that I have met after they have “gone off” online are pussycats in person.

I like the accountability of identity management or whatever the correct wording of it is. It is just too easy to be an anonymous coward online.
