Emotional Happening
I am working in the back office. There are some guys working on the 2nd floor siding just outside my window. 20 minutes ago one of the guys fell, banged into the fence, and fell to the ground screaming. Dad called 911 within 3 seconds of it happening and the paramedics were here within 5 minutes. Mike, the gentleman that fell, appeared to be in a lot of pain. He was able to move his limbs and toes as the paramedics left, so we are hoping/praying that he will be ok.
Hearing and seeing this happening right in front of my face got my heart beating. It was/is emotional for me, pops and the other worker, Kevin. As I flagged down the paramedics outside, a few tears came to my eyes. It is sad to see someone in such obvious physical pain. And lady riding her bicycle by the house stopped and shared her concern with me and said that Mike would be in her prayers as the paramedics parked.
Just after this event, I reflected with my pops in the office. How violent and aweful this event was, we imagined how much worse war would be.
Update at 1:20 pm - just found out that Mike broke his back. He is moving his body parts though. Going into surgery this afternoon.
Update #2
Mike’s mother stopped by the office at around 4:30 pm to pick-up his car. She told me that Mike wanted to thank me and pops for getting the paramedics there so quickly and for comforting him. His mama said that he is going into surgery tonight - inserting some metal rods etc.

Big time mate - big time. Yes - on the reminder to live every day to its fullest.
United StatesOh Sean….
So sorry to hear what happened. I will keep Mike in my prayers. They’re doing amazing things with spine surgery these days. Hopefully the break isn’t too bad and he’ll be back to near 100% soon.
ditto to what eb said.
Cheers.

Knowing what a caring guy you are, I can well imagine your concern. Though it seems that Mike will ultimately be OK, the potential horrors (thankfully avoided) of life-altering (or ending) injury or illness are only a small misstep away for all of us. Another reason (as if we need another) to live life fully as possible every day.
As regards the good news of the day, that’s another reminder to celebrate all our victories, even in the face of adversity, and that, for all the shitty stuff that happens, on balance, life serves up more good than bad.
