First Thursday in the Pearl of Portland, Oregon

My plans for thursday night fell through at the last minute….but Nick was available for going out.  We headed down to First Thursday Art Walk….

After parking, we cruised down 12th ave looking for some art I guess.  A few galleries were in between our car and our destination (oba’s) so we stopped for a peruse.  The stuff I saw, IMO, was crap.  Nick said this yellow mustard painting that was selling for $1100 "looks like a 5 year old doormat".  I agreed.  Another gallery had some boxes that were painted different colors going for a G each.  Good for the artist if they can get that I reckon.

The beer helped the art at the last  few galleries we swung through.  It all looked a bit more interesting.  The best, had to be Weiden and Kennedy’s place.  Hip Hop music and a travel photography show/experiment.

Sean:

Why do you never ask me about Portland things beforehand? The best art is at the LowBrow Gallery. It’s called mini-corn dogs and tater-tots. Yum. And we was down there. So was Celeste, randomly, for that matter. HairM link goes here.

Also, Liz. Is there a link to Chris in Miami’s work? And where in Miami is he showing? I used to live there.

Yours in moral values,

miguel

Weiden & Kennedy was different, not great, but an interesting concept. (The idea was for the company’s worldwide employees, family and friends to take whatever shots moved them using a disposable camera). A good assortment of snacks was offered!

Dale and Andrea dropped in just as we were leaving. Being a photographer, I’m curious in her take of the exhibit.

The name of the show is Scope Miami. It’s at the Townhouse Hotel in Miami Beach Dec. 2-5th. Try www.scope-art.com :-)

Really like his first image - the levels, sun coming through producing shadows, feeling of isolation within this stark environment, lack of color suggesting a lack of feeling. So many people but distant from one another. Not sure where they are - some factory, going to and coming from work.

What did Chris have in mind?

That’s funny - wrong artist. And quite a difference!

Like “Crack” - delicate, soft, dreamlike. Lovely.

“Deathstar” is good, its detail is enchanting.

And what about “Bing, Bang and Bloom”.

I can visualize them as a trio, displayed side by side - fantasy, carefree. I see them as different stages in the evolution of a star.

What did Chris have in mind??
