“Go Cubs Go” Lyrics

By Chicago folk legend Steve Goodman.

—–

Baseball season’s underway

Well you better get ready for a brand new day

Hey, Chicago, what do you say

The Cubs are gonna win today.

They’re singing …

Go, Cubs, go

Go, Cubs, go

Hey, Chicago, what do you say

The Cubs are gonna win today

Go, Cubs, go

Go, Cubs, go

Hey, Chicago, what do you say

The Cubs are gonna win today.

They got the power, they got the speed

To be the best in the National League

Well this is the year and the Cubs are real

So come on down to Wrigley Field.

We’re singing now …

Go, Cubs, go

Go, Cubs, go

Hey, Chicago, what do you say

The Cubs are gonna win today

Go, Cubs, go

Go, Cubs, go

Hey, Chicago, what do you say

The Cubs are gonna win today.

Baseball time is here again

You can catch it all on WGN

So stamp your feet and clap your hands

Chicago Cubs got the greatest fans.

You’re singing now …

Go, Cubs, go

Go, Cubs, go

Hey, Chicago, what do you say

The Cubs are gonna win today

Go, Cubs, go

Go, Cubs, go

Hey, Chicago, what do you say

The Cubs are gonna win today.

Good to see your post with the lyrics to “Go, Cubs, Go” by Steve Goodman. He often doesn’t get his due. Thought you might be interested in an eight-year project of mine that has come to fruition — an 800-page biography of Goodman published in May, “Steve Goodman: Facing the Music.” The book delves deeply into the origins of “A Dying Cub Fan’s Last Request” and “Go, Cubs, Go.” Please check my Internet site below for more info on the book. Just trying to spread the word. Feel free to do the same!

Dang, I just signed up for the site and this was my first save and you sent me a note.

Question about Steve Goodman. Obviously I’m a Chicago area person. Steve and Johnnie on WGN at nights might be very interested in your book. I’m pretty sure Steve Goodman has been on their show. I’ll take a peek at your book. 800 pages that pretty incredible.

While Steve and Johnnie don’t know me, feel free to pass on my info to them if that helps get you in (yeah I think I’m a somebody LOL).

Thinking further it may not have been Steve Goodman but it may have been about him. Take care,

Thanks for posting the lyrics. It’s funny that I remember “A Dying Cub Fan’s Last Request” from the 80’s and am a big John Prine fan but I never connected Steve Goodman with “Go Cubs Go.”

I must admit that it comes across a little cheesy early in the season but for the past month I haven’t been able to stop myself from humming it at work. I haven’t been this excited about the Cubs since I was eight years old and my mom let me stay home from school to watch the first NLCS game. (She concluded that “Cubs fever” was a serious enough malady to keep me indoors. Unfortunately it has also had the side effects of angst and disappointment almost every summer.) GO CUBS!

No worries Sam. I agree - a little cheesy early in the year but super appropriate now. Game in 2 hours! Co Cubs!
