Daytona 500 and NASCAR

Sitting here watching the Daytona 500 on a beautiful day. I watched the qualification last weekend from Sunriver with my buddy Scott and it is a lot of fun. The race is fun as well. Just saw this driver Boris Said spin out – but he is still in the race after putting on some new tires.

We are thinking of doing a Nascar Logue much like we did for WCBlog. I think it would be a lot of fun. Anyone know and kick arse Nascar blogger to head it up?

Happy Sunday.

Blogging is so easy: Bill Simmons

The Sports Guy was at the Super Bowl Media day and took some pictures and posted some comments about it. It is a really good take/recap of what Media Day is like from his perspective.

The funny thing is that no one really does stuff like this. The Behind the Scenes stuff that is so interesting. We used to do quite a bit of it on BootBlog. Nick still does a lot of it on BaliBlog. It is such an easy piece todo, almost any blogger can do this type of piece. Wanna create compelling content? Cover an event and don’t try to right the AP story on it…have an opinion, take some pictures. It’s not gonna a win a Pulitzer, but it sure is entertaining and informative in its own way.

Sports Illustrated not linking.

SI has a rumors page and quoted theoffside, but as you’d expect of a big publisher…no link. At least they mentioned the name. Nice one Bob. Just woulda been nice if they linked out. Bob and all of our Bloggers are crazy arse linkers. The web of course is built on links. Check out the Calacanis bit about linking as well.

It’s just crap. Of course, that section sucks anyway. Name a big/quality blog/site that doesn’t link out.

theOffside Soccer Store

I am happy to announce our newest store in the BootsnAll Travel Network, theOffside Soccer Store. We had a damn popular World Cup Store this past summer and we figured we’d make this one bigger/better.

It has 1000s of products and even if you are an old fart like me and don’t play anymore, there are tonnes of jerseys, DVD’s and Fan type stuff to browse and buy.

Bob on David Beckham

“…You also have to question his assessment about Beckham becoming an actor. Have you ever heard Becks speak? There aren’t many parts in silent films these days.”

Quote from Tex Winter

I read almost all of, “The Last Season” by former Bulls Coach Phil Jackson that chronicles the season that Shaq, Kobe, Gary Payton and Karl Malone were all LA Lakers on the way back from Vegas.

This quote by Tex Winter struck me as true:

“You are only a success at the moment that you do a successful act”

Phil Jackson explains that quote further with, “You can’t be a sucecss the next moment because you have already moved on to do something else, even if it’s accepting the award for the successful moment that just passed. That is why I’ve always told my players the glorification comes from the journey, not the outcome.”

NFL Playoffs, Blogs and AOL sport blogging initiative

I love January in the USA. NFL playoffs and it’s generally crappy out….so what better way to spend an afternoon. Surfing and watching pretty damn good football. The past few years I have been out of country so I have missed a lot of it.

Always great to see the show boating cocky Dallas Cowboys choke and lose at the end yesterday. Currently watching the Philly v NYGiants game.

We played around with NFL Logue this past year a little bit. Would love to get at it properly next season. If you are familiar with NFL blogs and whatnot, there is the AOL NFL Blog which is basically a copy of what we did with World Cup Blog this past summer. A blog per team etc, etc. WCBlog partnered with AOL this year for distribution and when I talked to them, they loved our concept and said they were gonna copy it for NFL. Smart move I reckon and they are doing a good job as well. If we had more resources, we would have as well. 🙂
