Back in Portland and the blog

Donovan and I got back late last nite from Seattle and the Adventure Travel World Summit.   Great stuff participating in it the past few days.  Our days were packed from 7 am to about 10 pm – full of interesting people, speakers sharing gr8 info and networking with folks that have similiar interests.

Also – not sure if you saw – we are quietly launching Portland Blog. Court is writing up a bunch of happy hour reviews and other random portland stuff.  Add it to your RSS reader – it’ll be a total portland resource b4 too long.

Garage Sale on Fremont and 13th

Beausse and are are having a Garage Sale this morning.  Just sold my old bicycle for $25 that I paid 95 for about 7 years ago.  Not bad…the guy seems happy as well.

When I ask an Indonesian person to tell me about themselves they will
talk about where they are from and their family, not about how much
they earn or how great they are.

from this post by Nick

This is a great reminder…I think I hear quite a bit about “how great they are and how much coin they earn” quite often. For my friends, please tell me if I ever do shit like that and slap me in the arse or lightly on the face…

Nick is coming for a month to Portland (November) – can’t wait to hang out with him and hear more stories.

Float down the Sandy in Portland

The weather should be be nice and hot in PDX saturday. I am gonna float down the Sandy for a few hours (11 am to 3 pm) with Donovan and folks. If you wanna come, let me know.

You’ll need:
– Bathing suit or shit you can get wet in
– innertube of some sort ($5 models work great)
– sunscreen, snack and towel

1 of the inner-tubes we float down with is filled with beer, which is a nice refreshment as well. 🙂

Dodgeball Glory in Portland, OR

I played Dodgeball last nite in this Portland League at Ockley Green School in north portland last night.  This team, Double Vision needed a sub for the last few weeks of the competition and since I played with them like 6 months ago, David gave me a ring.

So we were having a very competitive match, in fact, our team was slightly outclassed for the majority of the game.  We were down 7 games to 5 and time was running out.  A guy on my team, Clint helped save us and to win game 6 when he nailed an opposing player and then caught a rocket from point blank range to seal game 6.

Time was getting very low but the refs let us continue cuz we started late…Our team was tired and struggling – within a minute into thes next game – I was the last man standing on our side. The other team had around 3 people left and some of their gunning males.  Things looked hopeless being down 7 to 6…

Tea Chai Te in Portland, Oregon

Ioan and I are spending sunday afternoon working at Tea Chai Te in NW portland.  I am having this strawberry green tea.  Tastes like normal green tea to me.

Ioan and LG’s party was a good laugh.  Pictures to come – of course, I still have pictures from my trip that need to go up – hopefully soon.

Zbigniew Brzezinski: World Affair Council Talk March 10th

HB e-mailed me just before a 5 pm. run yesterday with a ticket to World Affairs Council of Oregon talk by Zbigniew Brzezinski (Hereafter referred to as ZB).

This guy served as Jimmy Carter’s National Security Advisor when Jimmy was Prez.

Quick rundown of him: Born in Poland, immigrated to Canada at age 10…graduated from McGill then went to Harvard…I think he said he was teaching at Harvard by age 23.  Lotsa Academia stuff b4 the big post under Jimmy.

This guy is an excellent speaker, smart, thoughtful and a pleasure to listen to.  (Did anyone record it for a podcast?) – As tne NSA under Carter, he would meet with him every morning for 1/2 hour to go over the current state of affairs around the world.  The talk he gave last nite, was as if we were the president, and just coming into office…so he ran down what the world should look like in 2020 …and then the risk factors that might prevent it from happening.

After so many years of not really being that interested in World Affairs cuz the news seems to be yelling at me and it goes in one ear and out the other…listening to this guy woke up a part of my brain that has not seen any activity for a while.

I think I am joining this World Affairs thing as a member so I can hear more intelligent and logical folks talk about this stuff versus yelling emotional crazies on the TV.  Anyone wanna join me?
