Mark Prior: Bye-Bye

I am a bit sad, and happy to see Mark Prior leave the Cubbies to sign with the SD Padres. He was a huge hope for Cub fans for some many years. I remember hearing folks say, “He is a once every 10 year type of pitching prospect”. He of course did not live up to that, took a tonne of money from the Cubs, and produced a lot of heartache for the fans.

I wish it woulda worked out better.

But I’m glad the wimp/SoCal baby is gone back to Mommy and Daddy. Maybe his name should have been in the Mitchell Report…
Mark Prior

Kinda feels like if I got the hottest girl to date me for a few years in my late teens, but she got outta shape real quick into the relationship and stayed that way for like 5 years. If I dumped her, and then she got all fit again and starts dating my best friend, I’d be pissed cuz she was a train wreck while dating her. We’ll see if it plays out this way for the Cubbies/Fans.

“Go Cubs Go” Lyrics

By Chicago folk legend Steve Goodman.

—–

Baseball season’s underway

Well you better get ready for a brand new day

Hey, Chicago, what do you say

The Cubs are gonna win today.

They’re singing …

Go, Cubs, go

Go, Cubs, go

Hey, Chicago, what do you say

The Cubs are gonna win today

Go, Cubs, go

Go, Cubs, go

Hey, Chicago, what do you say

The Cubs are gonna win today.

They got the power, they got the speed

To be the best in the National League

Well this is the year and the Cubs are real

So come on down to Wrigley Field.

We’re singing now …

Go, Cubs, go

Go, Cubs, go

Hey, Chicago, what do you say

The Cubs are gonna win today

Go, Cubs, go

Go, Cubs, go

Hey, Chicago, what do you say

The Cubs are gonna win today.

Baseball time is here again

You can catch it all on WGN

So stamp your feet and clap your hands

Chicago Cubs got the greatest fans.

You’re singing now …

Go, Cubs, go

Go, Cubs, go

Hey, Chicago, what do you say

The Cubs are gonna win today

Go, Cubs, go

Go, Cubs, go

Hey, Chicago, what do you say

The Cubs are gonna win today.

Badge of Honor: I am on Cubs Suck

My old buddy Zimmy sent me this.  Mcgovern and I made this page…I couldn’t be happier actually.  What a badge of honor to be hated so much for loving my team.  Give me more hate like this!

Baseball Gods are Smiling upon me

Yesterday was one of those great days…where everything fell into place.  From Dusty Baker reserving our seats at HoHoKam to hanging out with Buck Showalter’s family at a night time Rangers game.  2 spring training games in 1 day and such an intimate atmosphere…I just loved it.  I reckon we should set-up BootsnAll SouthWest office for a few weeks every winter so we can work down here and enjoy spring training.  Who wants to join me next winter?  Let’s rent a house with Internet and a nearby gym and go for it.

Here are a few pictures till I have time to write up more stories.

Gammons on Cubbies

ESPN.com – Gammons: Maintenance staff
Spoke to Moreth today – he is down on the cubs…bloody Prior and Woody are already hurting.  We both hope is not a pattern that continues if the cubbies are gonna have any chance this year.  I’ll try to blog my arse off from Mesa next weekend.

Freesia has similiar thoughts on her blog.
Ugh – I hope we are wrong…why are there arms so sore…are they just not used to a little bit of pain or is it chronic?

Ryne Sandberg: Hall of Famer

One of my favorite baseball players, Cubby Ryne Sandberg got elected into the Hall of Fame today.  I am super stoke to hear this.

Like many other young dude in the 80′s, he was my favorite Cubby and player for many years.  Quiet and unassuming.  He never boasted or gestured loudly like many of today’s players.  He just played hard and well.

Congrats to Ryno!

(Note: just got back from the gym and on Sportscenter they were talking about Ryno and Hoggs, I mean Boggs…they said Sandberg did not get into the Hall on the 1st ballot cuz he was so humble, gentle and quiet.  Peter Gammons said when Sndberg retired he was a for sure 1st ballot HOF’er)
