Lonely Planet ties up with Optus Mobile.

“By 2007, the Internet will be the key source of information and inspiration for all trips. We want to move an increasing amount of our information onto the Web. We’re seeing more and more people consulting the Web, but because people are travelling more independently, we’ve seen our guidebook sales rise in the last couple of years as well. There’s a growing desire to book as well as to research online. People are much more confident in putting together the individual components of their trips,” Lonely Planet business development director Nathan Clapton was recently quoted as saying.

Wow - by 2007. I still have time to start a travel website and maybe catch on to this growing phenomena! The world wide web, I mean information superhighway really is a great way to research travel and find kewl stuff. Good thing Lonely Planet is figuring that we still have 2 years until it will be the “key source” for researching. Until then, open up the floodgates on opportunities!

Then again…maybe this quote was taking out of context. It just sounds a bit obvious/late to the game the way it was phrased.
